Learn with Homer: Reading & Educational Games is a learn-to-read app for children aged 3 to 6 that incorporates drawing, voice recording, stories, songs, and more, along with more traditional phonics exercises. Up to three children can have individual user accounts on one app, and parents can view the progress of each kid.

Monster Hunt

Monster Hunt – The Memory Game
This is a simple and really effective app aimed at developing attention and concentration skills, and improving working memory. You get a few seconds to view where the monsters are hidden and then have to click on their hiding places.  The difficulty grows, the better you get!  It’s free and effective, so well worth having.

Counting and number

Bubbles of Maths
A no-nonsense addition game…  A target number appears at the top and the child has to tap two numbers that add up to that target.  Gradually the bubbles/balls drop and the child scores a time against the clock to try to beat next time.  As the levels go up, the numbers get larger.  It’s a bright, colourful and simple way to speed up basic adding skills.

Early coding

Daisy the Dinosaur

This free app is a great introduction to coding for younger pupils.  It takes them step by step through simple instructions, gradually building up sequences. From here, children can move onto a variety of other coding apps and then onto classic computing programmes such as Scratch.

Times Tables

Squeebles

The Squeebles Times Tables 2 app offers a fun way for children to learn and practise tables, helping Whizz to rescue 35 of the Squeebles from the nasty Maths Monster as a reward for their hard work. Featuring a great reward system, fun mini game, 7 tables modes, unlimited players and plenty of stats and reporting for parents and teachers. As usual, no in-app purchases or adverts.

Eggy Phonics

Phonics is an essential part of learning to read and Eggy Phonics 1 makes phonics fun and rewarding. This app focuses on the first 100 short-vowel words, such as cat, dog and bus.

This is an app providing a variety of problem solving opportunities for the children. This app is educational and fun. 101 spelling tests based on the order of teaching letters and sounds, beginning with s, a, t, p, i, n, m and so on, leading onto digraphs and trigraphs such as 'ch' and 'air'. Finally the spellings become more challenging, for example, the /er/ sound in 'earth' and the 'silent u' in 'building'. The player is encouraged to listen to the word and spell the word correctly, sometimes using capital letters too!
