Supporting Your Child

Supporting Your Child Pupil Support and Guidance

At Penn Wood Primary & Nursery School, pupil support and guidance comes at the heart of the school’s ethos. To enable our children to become happy, enthusiastic, independent learners, we offer support and guidance through the A.I.R. Team (Active Learning Library, Miss A Parveen; Inclusion and Reach Out Worker Mrs S Davies)

Special Educational Needs
At our school we consider a child has Special Educational Needs if he/she requires special provision to be made for him/her within or outside school. We expect that the school and parents/carers and the child will work together for the benefit of the child. Our Special Educational Needs Policy is available to parents.

Able and Talented
We believe that it is important to recognise potential and achievement and ensure that these pupils are given work that challenges and supports their learning.

Inclusion
At Penn Wood Primary & Nursery School we are dedicated to the inclusion of all children. Within our school ethos children are encouraged to develop as individuals and reach their full potential. As part of our school curriculum children are able to profile their individual learning styles and identify their strengths to develop and enhance their learning journey.

Child Protection

The school takes its duty to promote and safeguard the welfare of our children very seriously. The Headteacher is the designated person for Child Protection within the school and she ensures that the policy is reviewed regularly and staff are adequately trained in this area. The school will make a referral to Children’s Social Care if there is cause to suspect abuse or neglect. It is the school’s policy to advise parents that a referral is being made unless it would not be in the child’s best interests to do so.

Inclusion Team
Our Inclusion Team's work entails supporting vulnerable children and their families who are experiencing difficulties within and/or outside of school. Areas of work that are supported include, but are not limited to: PSHE/Emotional Literacy, Self-Esteem, Self-Regulation, Anger Management, Friendship Issues and Understanding and Recognising Emotions.

Active Learning Library
This special Library has been set up as a high quality resource for the School and the wider community. All are able to borrow books, taped stories, videos, games, puppets and revision guides. The room offers a calm, comfortable environment where children and adults can relax and learn together. The library is in use throughout the school day for a variety of activities. Opening times: 8.15—8.50 am and 3.15—3.45 pm
