During the spring term, in English, Year 2 will be learning a non-chronological report about Red Kites. The children will then write their own non-chronological report. Later this term, we will be writing a description of a setting using the text Alice in Wonderland. You can borrow similar stories and poetry books from the school library to share with your child at home to help with their understanding of the work in class. It would be fantastic if you could encourage your child to read widely at home, both fiction and non-fiction. The children are allowed to borrow two books at a time from the Active Learning Library.
In maths this term, children will continue to secure their knowledge of number bonds to 20 and will be moving onto learning their number bonds to 100. We will continue working on place value, securing the mental methods of addition and subtraction, and will use word problems so that the children will have to work out which operation to use. Length, mass and fractions will also be introduced as well as continuing with 3D shapes. Children will continue to practise their 2, 5 and 10 times tables, so please carry on supporting their learning of these at home.
We love reading and it is important that you are reading with your child daily. Please listen to them read, discuss the book, ask questions and fill in his/her reading record. Please ask your child’s class teacher if you have any questions about this or any other learning.
Many thanks for all the support you give your child. It is very important that we continue to work in partnership with you to ensure they make the most of their learning opportunities.
Please remember the children will be taking the Key Stage 1 Tests at the end of May and therefore practising reading, writing, spelling and maths at home is as important as ever.
We would love to see you at our Rapid Reading and Rapid Maths mornings, which take place every Wednesday from 8:50am - 9:15am in your child’s classroom.
The Year Two team are always happy to help you and your child, please come and speak to us if you have any queries or would like more ideas to support your child at home.
