Our OPAL Vision

At Penn Wood, we believe that purposeful outdoor play is fundamental to every child's development, happiness and success. Through our engagement in the OPAL programme, we create rich opportunities for children to build resilience, self-efficacy, and advocacy, while strengthening vital language and communication skills such as storytelling, debating, negotiating, and problem-solving.  

Outdoor play is at the heart of our vision for excellence: it nurtures communication and oracy skills and mental and physical wellbeing, deepens friendships, and fosters kindness, respect and community spirit. By promoting positive and respectful relationships where children play, create and problem solve together, our outdoor play sets children up for successful, creative playtimes rich in learning opportunities. This contributes to creating both outdoor play and classroom learning environments where every child thrives.
