Celebrating Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year, also known as Lunar New Year or the Spring Festival, is the main Chinese festival of the year. As the Chinese use the lunar calendar for their festivals the date of Chinese New Year changes from year to year. In year 3, we have spent the Spring term learning all about Chinese New Year and the Shang Dynasty. We were lucky enough to have Chinese New Year fall during the term time and thought it would be a great way to bring together all of our learning.

To celebrate Chinese New Year, we took part in a variety of activities including:

  1. Making tiger faces as we are in the year of the tiger.  We also found out what the year of the tiger means.
  2. Making our own oracle bones out of clay and writing messages in Mandarin.
  3. Creating red envelopes with special messages written in Mandarin. We even got to put a special gold coin inside!
