The Jigsaw PSHE scheme, which is delivered to all pupils from FS2 to Year 6, focuses on the Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural Values and British Values. The Jigsaw scheme brings together Personal, Social, Health, Economic and Citizenship education, emotional literacy, social skills and spiritual development. It holds children at its heart and its cohesive vision helps children understand and value who they are and how they fit into and contribute to the world.
The Jigsaw scheme at Penn Wood School is applied as a whole school approach, with all year groups working on a theme at the same time. Each year group undertakes a series of six lessons on the theme for that half term at their own level.
The themes that are covered across the year by all pupils are:
|Being Me in my World|
|Dreams and Goals|
We also develop PSHCE through collective worship. Collective worship allows pupils to consider and reflect on common concerns, issues and interests. It offers all pupils an opportunity for spiritual, moral, social and cultural development and time for quiet reflection or to pray is they choose to.
Pupils have the opportunity to elect representatives such as the School Council and Eco-Warriors from each class, who meet regularly to discuss school matters.
Please see below the PSHE overviews for each year group. Also available is a more in depth insight into the ‘Changing Me’ unit for each year group which all children in the school will be taught in the second half of the summer term.
