Storyy: Year 5 and 6 Workshop
Fri 07 Mar 2025Lee and Mike from Storyy came in today to give Year 5 and 6 an important workshop about choices. The children were reminded that actions have consequences, we are responsible for learning how to manage our emotions and talking to trusted adults is always a good idea. Lee and Mike also reiterated the message that we need to be vigilant and aware in order to avoid exploitation and harm, and we need to stay true to who we are. Thank you Storyy - we enjoyed the rapping too. Love Music, No Violence!

Maths Mentors

Primary Panathlon
Tue 25 Feb 2025Recently, some of our Year 3 and 4 pupils attended the Primary Panathlon at The Centre in Slough, an inclusive event introducing children to a range of adapted sports through team competition. They took part in activities that developed their movement skills, teamwork and confidence in a fun and supportive environment. The pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience and were eager to share their excitement when they returned to school.

Slough Music Service Instrument Demonstration
Tue 07 Jan 2025On Wednesday 5th January, instrumental teachers from Slough Music service came into school to demonstrate their instruments to pupils from years 2 to 5. The children heard the trumpet, guitar, cello, drums and performances from vocalists as well. If any families would like their child to learn an instrument in school, please visit the following website for more information. Super Autumn Term Sport Ambassadors

Congratulations to our 12 Autumn Sport Ambassadors, who have worked very hard to continue to promote activity in our school. Not only have they supported the PE team with the Intra-house competitions and lunchtime clubs, they also assisted the British athlete visit on our whole school event day. Well done!

Year 5 Fire Station Visit
Thu 05 Dec 2024Today the Slough Fire Service visited Year 5 at Penn Wood school. The firefighters talked about fire safety, smoke alarms and creating an escape plan.
The children had the opportunity to go into the fire truck and explore the tools and equipment which they use to help keep us safe.

Tan Dhesi MP
Fri 22 Nov 2024The right honourable Tan Dhesi MP came to visit Penn Wood today. He told Year 4, 5 and 6 about Prime Minister Questions, the Houses of Parliament and how elections work. Our Student Voice Representatives used fantastic oracy skills to ask their class questions. We were honoured to have Slough's MP with us, we learnt a lot and the children asked very important questions about Slough, crime and the education system.

Year 2 Hindu Priest Visit
Thu 21 Nov 2024Year 2 were delighted to welcome Mr Naresh Saraswat, Priest of Slough Hindu Temple, to Penn Wood School. Mr Saraswat gave Year 2 an engaging talk to enhance their Religion and Worldviews curriculum topic of Hinduism, where they are currently learning about the story of Rama and Sita and why Hindus celebrate Diwali. Mr Saraswat was very impressed with the children's knowledge of Hinduism and how many questions they wanted to ask him at the end!

Workshop with the Grundon Team
Tue 19 Nov 2024Children from Year 1 and Year 6 participated in a workshop from the team at Grundon. Children in Year 1 have been learning about transport so they enjoyed learning all about the safety features on the vehicle and how to be safe around trucks on the roads. They learnt about why recycling is important and had a go at choosing the right bin to put some items in, such as aluminium cans.
Year 6 linked their Geography learning around their impact on the environment and learnt lots of interesting facts. The children engaged in important discussions and enjoyed having a turn in the cab!

Grunsdon Recycling Visit
Tue 19 Nov 2024On Tuesday 19th November, several people from Grunsdon came to visit Penn Wood. They gave an assembly about road safety and recycling and led some workshops with Year 6. Year 6 learnt about Grundson's efforts to offset their carbon footprint and got a tour of their electric vehicle. The volunteers were very knowledgeable and the children has a memorable experience.
