  • Year 6 Church Trip

    Tue 30 Nov 2021

Last week, Year 6 visited Slough Baptiste Church to take part in a Christmas Unwrapped morning.

This programme included the telling and dramatization of the Christmas Story, as well as an explanation of modern Christmas traditions. We had great fun learning and really enjoyed our mince pies when we returned back to school!

  • Reception Walk to the Post Box

Tue 30 Nov 2021 Miss Alford

Over the past few weeks, Reception children have been working hard to write letters to Santa. We decorated our envelopes and learnt about what stamps are used for.

Last week, each Reception class walked to the post box on Cumberland Avenue to post their letters. We all had a fantastic time! They did a great job at walking sensibly, crossing the road with care with their grown ups and their partners. Thank you so much to all of the parent helpers that came to support us.

  • Anti-bullying Week 2021

    Mon 22 Nov 2021

Last week Penn Wood participated in Odd Socks Day to celebrate Anti-Bullying Week. We held a competition for classes to take the most creative photo they could of children in their odd socks. The winning entry for Key Stage 1 is Redwood Class who spelt out Penn Wood! The winning entry for Key Stage 2 is Olive Class who created a lovely circle with lots of odd socks! Redwood and Olive Class will receive Penn Wood wrist bands and 10 minutes of extra break. A big well done to all the classes for their inventive ideas!

  • Interfaith Week

    Fri 19 Nov 2021

We hope the whole school community enjoyed Interfaith Week this year! It was a brilliant way to celebrate and understand different faiths.

We started the week with a virtual assembly from a professional Indian dancer called Nikita from the Dancing Nikita Company. She taught the children about Kathak dancing and we all joined in and learnt some dance moves!

In the middle of the week, year 4 had the unique opportunity to have a dhol workshop by a professional dhol player called Lakhan from High Rated Drummers and Baja Beats UK. The children learnt about the drum that originates from India and got to play a beat on it too! At the end of the school day, Lakhan performed to the school community and it was smiles all round!

Throughout the week, each class learnt how to write the first letter of their first name in Arabic. Every class wrote their Arabic letters on a jigsaw piece to make a whole jigsaw for the class. This shows how connected we are, no matter what our faith or background!

To end the week, classes had time to share traditions from their faiths and cultures as well as to ask questions, because it's okay to ask and be curious! Some classes enjoyed cake from a local baker, Neelam from Sweet Vision, as they chatted about their religions and beliefs.

  • Little Musketeers' fencing workshop

Tue 02 Nov 2021 Miss Evans

On Tuesday 19th October,  fencing coaches from Little Muskeeteers came into school to deliver workshops to pupils in years 3, 4 and 5. During the course of the workshop, pupils acquired new fencing skills and worked on their balance and coordination. This was the first time the children had taken part in a fencing activity.

“It was wonderful to see how engaged the pupils were in the activity. They showed great self-control and confidence. They were able to master the ‘on guard’ position very well indeed. They loved taking part in a new activity. “

    A.Deol, Year 3 classteacher, 21/10/21
