On Tuesday 23rd April, many schools from around Slough and Berkshire attended the Slough Dance The Festival at The Curve ran by Creative Academy and Slough School Sports Network (SSSN).
We entered 2 performances; a group of children from year 5 and the after school club. They put on a spectacular show for all to enjoy. This was the very first of its kind, bringing the whole community together for a celebration of rhythmic movement and there was a genuine feeling of nostalgia throughout the whole day.
The children were able to meet new people and experience the magic that happens behind the scenes and the whole day was unforgettable. Congratulations to everyone on a smashing performance! We can’t wait for next year so we can relive this day all over again!
We were delighted that some of our community wanted to celebrate Eid with our school community. Our community were gifted with balloons and delicious food. Thank you to the families that generously did this for our community.
This term we were joined by Mr Brown from MNR Coaching, who delivered a very new and interesting sport to Penn Wood, Pillo Polo. Despite its name, there certainly wasn’t any time for napping! Year 3, 5 and 6 enjoyed a range of functional movement games, developing their hand eye co-ordination, accuracy and invasion game strategies throughout teamwork. The game begins with a ‘bully’ which involves two players tapping sticks three times before competing to strike the ball first. Players a penalised for high sticks, using feet and of course, any contact made to another player. Only goalies are allowed to use their feet. This has been a fantastic development at Penn Wood and has increased confidence in the pupils ability to apply their skills to hockey and a range of team sports. Thank you, Mr Brown.
Brentford Football Club!
The year 5s were joined by coaches from Brentford Football Club who delivered a brand new unit called the ‘Joy of Movement’. The children learned about the importance of nutrition and lifestyle choices which impact our health and the difference that can makes to performance. It was a fabulous insight into what it takes to be the best version of themselves and delivered through theory and practical sessions. A wealth of knowledge learned and we hope will continue to impact the children on their fitness journeys throughout their time at Penn Wood and beyond!
