  • Everyone Can Play- Violin Workshop and Concert

    Fri 24 Jun 2022

On Friday 24th June, Oak class participated in an event called ‘Everyone can play’. The year 4 pupils had been preparing for this concert, which brought together trumpeters, drummers and singers from different primary schools in Slough, in their violin lessons. Alongside musicians from other schools, Oak class played their violins with a professional band, performing a specially composed song about Slough and also Gary Barlow’s song, “Sing”. The day ended with an outside performance of these pieces of music to an audience of parents.

  • Opera Singing Performance

    Tue 14 Jun 2022

On Tuesday 14th June, pupils in key stage 2 had the wonderful opportunity of hearing professional opera singers, from London Festival opera, perform a variety of songs from operas by Gilbert and Sullivan and Verdi. The children were literally blown away by the power of the singing voices and many commented how much they loved the performance. It was a truly unforgettable experience and it was so special to hear amazing performers sing live in our school.

  • Reception's Trip to Windsor Castle

    Mon 09 May 2022

The Reception Children had a wonderful, busy day at Windsor Castle.

They were able to spot the Royal Standard and could explain that this meant that the Queen was there!  Unfortunately, we didn't spot her on our walk around the castle, though!

Members of the public commented on the children's exemplary behaviour; they all made us very proud.

  • The Sports Ambassadors of Penn Wood

Fri 29 Apr 2022 Mrs Downer

The Penn Wood pupils have been excitedly waiting to hear the news of who the Sport Ambassadors will be. The Sports Ambassadors will be responsible for assisting the PE team with many inter and intra house events, clubs, equipment, PE lessons and of course our exciting annual Sports Day celebrations.

After many discussions amongst the PE team, class teachers and Mrs Girle, we had a very tough â€‹decision to make. However, we are very proud to announce our selection. A huge congratulations to:

    1. Filip

    2. Sartaj

    3. Abdirahman

    4. Aleeza

    5. Ahlam

    6. Liabah

    7. Emil

    8. Maryam

    9. Maja

    10. Ally

    11. Azeem

    12. Ayesha

These children have been carefully selected, due to their positive attributes which they have demonstrated in and out of lessons. They continually encourage the rest of the pupils and they try to find ways to resolve things. They are very motivated and encourage others, always.  Most importantly, they are cheerful, positive and always looking for ways to improve.

Congratulations to all of the children. We are very proud of each and everyone of the pupils here at Penn Wood and we are looking forward to celebrating sport with you all after half term.

  • Vaisakhi

    Wed 06 Apr 2022

On Monday we celebrated the Sikh festival of Vaisakhi. Vaisakhi is the harvest festival but also the time when the tenth guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji created the Khalsa. Children celebrated by wearing bright clothes or their own south Asian clothing to school. People of Punjab dance bhangra during Vaisakhi so we also had a go at some of the dance moves!

  • The Louis Taylor Road Safety Show

    Fri 01 Apr 2022

This week, Year 2 and 3 were lucky enough to watch a fantastic Road Safety Show, which has been developed using magic and entertainment to deliver those all important messages to pupils. The children absolutely loved meeting Troy and Billy Beacon. Louis took them through a series of examples of experiences that they have had by the road and the children helped to navigate them through some tricky decisions.

Billy has two BIG feet to remind him to STOP well back from the kerb, two big eyes to LOOK around very carefully, two big ears to LISTEN to traffic and a big round head to THINK. Billy Beacon encourages children to look out for him, as he will show them a safer place to cross. However Billy also reminds them that they MUST still hold a grown-up’s hand when crossing, which is why he has two hands as well.

The children were absolutely astounded when the handkerchief appeared and they were even more amazed when they were able to ‘throw’ invisible colour to the picture and magically make the colour appear. Louis was captivating throughout and the children really took on board these important messages. What a spectacular afternoon.

  • Scholastic Book Fair

    Sun 20 Mar 2022

The school is thrilled by how popular this term's Scholastic Book Fair was with all children (and parents!).

Every child in the school had the chance to browse the fair during the school day, and parents were then invited to join in after school.

It was brilliant to see families sharing their love of books together at Penn Wood!
