  • Ducklings in Year 1

    Fri 18 Mar 2022

What an exciting week we have had in Year 1!  On Monday morning we received a special delivery with 5 white eggs.

When we came to school on Wednesday morning, we noticed that one of the eggs had some cracks on it and when we went really, really quiet we could hear muffled squeaks coming from the eggs. After a while the first egg hatched... Then the second, and the third.

On Thursday morning the remaining 2 ducklings hatched and now they are all together, cuddling, sleeping, eating and drinking.

On Thursday afternoon they had their first swimming lesson and it went very well.  We hope you enjoy the photos below.

The children are in the process of naming the ducklings - we are sure they will be very creative.

  • Y4 Road Safety Workshop

    Tue 15 Mar 2022

Year 4 had a very exciting Road Safety workshop today. Konflux theatre came in to teach the children in a creative way using drama.

They discussed road safety and crossing roads. The children became road bikes and practised listening to and following verbal instructions to embed their understanding of cycling proficiency.  Using physical theatre, they then freeze framed and discussed more environmentally friendly ways to travel. A fantastic, informative time was had by all.

On Friday 4th March, Olive class attended a whole day singing workshop at the Curve, led by the singing ensemble, Total vocal. During the course of the day, they learnt some new songs, developed their vocal techniques and improved their ability to sing in parts. It was a very successful day and the children loved working with Chris and Molly.

We had a wonderful day celebrating World Book Day.  All of the children made corner bookmarks and had the option of dressing up or wearing their own clothes to reflect the brightness books bring to our lives.

  • Author Visit with Lisette Auton for Y5/6

    Wed 09 Feb 2022

This morning, Years 5 and 6 had the absolute privilege of taking part in an author event with Lisette Auton. Lisette introduced us to her debut novel: The Secret of Haven Point. This book celebrates the joy and importance of disabilities, inclusion and acceptance. Mermaids, kittens, heartbreak and beautiful friendships all wrapped up in a safe haven from Outsiders.  The event was covered by a British Sign Language (BSL) interpreter and it gave us an opportunity to talk about being inclusive of those with disabilities.

What an amazing story telling workshop; all children enjoyed drawing their very own beards filled with sentimental or inspiring items that they would like to keep close by them at all times.

  • RSPB Big Schools' Birdwatch

Wed 09 Feb 2022 Mrs Davis

We participated in the RSPB Big Schools' Birdwatch. We enjoyed finding out about the different birds living in the UK and we worked hard with our partners to identify the birds that we spotted around the school. We mostly saw seagulls and crows but some classes were lucky enough to see two red kites circling our school field. Some children also spotted a green parakeet, which wasn't on our list of birds! When we stood quiet and still in the woods, we could see some smaller birds like sparrows flitting around from tree to tree. It was lovely to see so many children getting outdoors during the Birdwatch - a perfect mindful activity to lead us into Children's Mental Health Week.

Miss Hullait and Mr McCollum shared an assembly this morning about Children's Mental Health Week.  The theme this year is 'Growing Together'.  We have sent families an email today linking to some resources so that you can support your children at home.

  • Action for Happiness - February

    Mon 07 Feb 2022

We need each other more than ever right now! This month let's focus on reaching out to connect with others and doing our best to be a good friend. Our acts of kindness and connection ripple out and impact so many more people than we realise - and they also boost our own happy hormones too! In stressful times people around us may be feeling the strain, so let's try to keep calm, take time to listen and show compassion.
