The Big Ask Survey

The Big Ask is the largest ever survey of children in England, designed to find out what their concerns and aspirations about the future are and this survey is now live at https://www.childrenscommissioner.gov.uk/thebigask/

Please take part in this survey. The survey can be taken by children from age 4 to age 17 and by adults who are a care leaver, parent or work with children. The survey will take approximately 5-10 minutes.

The results from this survey will help to identify the barriers preventing children from reaching their potential, put forward solutions and set ambitious goals for the country to achieve. The more children respond, the stronger the results will be!

Thank you in advance for helping to put children and young people at the head of the country’s plans to rebuild for the future.

Ducklings in Year 1

Year 1 welcomed some very special visitors last week! We were joined by five duck eggs who came to Penn Wood School to finish their hatching journey with us. The children were lucky enough to watch a video of the first duckling hatching, which they were all fascinated by. Over the past two weeks, Year 1 have watched all five ducklings grow and have learnt lots about them in their science lessons. The children have loved the experience of watching an animal grow, play, eat their first meal and take their first swim! All of Year 1 will miss our five feathery friends, but they have made the ducklings’ first two weeks in the world very special.

Let's reap the benefits of getting our bodies moving and breathing more deeply as a result of exercising, laughing and even singing! We don't all need to run marathons - there are simple things we can all do to take care of our bodies - for example unplugging from technology, getting outside and - importantly - making sure we get enough sleep!

This month's theme is 'Mindful March'

Let's take the time to pause, breathe and really take in what's all around us. This month we're encouraging you to take some time to look within. Learning to be more mindful and aware can do wonders for our well-being in all areas of life - like the way we eat, the things we notice or our relationships. It helps us get in tune with our feelings and stops us dwelling on the past or worrying about the future - so we get more out of the day-to-day. It can also help us identify what we're grateful for, which has been proven to help boost your happiness levels!

Our Year 1 Bubble's Happiness Rainbows

Our Year 1 Bubble have been working on one of Pie Corbett’s Talk for Writing booklets called Pippety Skycap. At the end, he writes a letter to say how happy he was to see the rainbow, how it made him smile, so he wanted to spread and share that happiness with others.

Year 1 decided to so the same by drawing rainbows on wooden log pieces. We think they are wonderful and certainly brought some happiness to us.
