  • Netball Bee Buzzers

Tue 12 Mar 2024 Mrs Downer

On Tuesday 12th March a group of year 2 children set off to Eden Girls School to enjoy a range of netball themed sporting activities. SSSN put on another great day, teamed with an England Netball ambassador. The activities included team and individual tasks with an overall aim of building confidence and just having fun! Super work team!

  • #LetGirlsPlay

Fri 08 Mar 2024 Mrs Downer

On Friday 8th March we celebrated #letgirlsplay day by hosting a year 3/4 and a year 5/6 girls football match. By 2024, The FA’s and Barclays ambition is for girls to have the same football opportunities as boys in schools and clubs.

#LetGirlsPlay is a campaign to drive influence and change perceptions, showing that football can and should be played by girls. It is bringing together a growing community of people of all genders, ages and backgrounds who want to champion equal access for girls, helping create independent, resilient young girls who will be a force for good in all local communities. As this was our 2nd year of celebrations, we really put Penn Wood on the map.

The Sport Ambassadors (SA) were busily leading skills, drills and mini games for KS1 and we also held our very own mini league, refereed by our SAs up on the field at lunchtime. The girls were proud to show off our brand new FA football kits; they brought us some luck too, as the year 3/4 team won 7-6 against St Mary’s!

The whole day was an inspiring success and we can’t wait to continue this level of enthusiasm throughout the rest of the year. You smashed it, girls!

  • World Book Day

Fri 08 Mar 2024 Mrs Mann and Miss Allen

What a wonderful World Book Day we enjoyed yesterday at Penn Wood, with children and staff parading as their favourite book characters. We certainly spent the whole day with big smiles on our faces! A love of books and reading is one of the most important gifts we can give our children and books are a central part of the excellent curriculum that we provide here at Penn Wood.

All of the children read 'Our Tower' by Joseph Coelho, and explored the book with discussion and some lovely written outcomes. They were a pleasure to read!

The older children visited classes from the lower school and some wonderful sharing of books and paired reading melted the hearts of the staff.

We thank you for supporting your child's love of reading and for encouraging them to read and share books. It was also delightful to see so many parents and carers attend Nursery's reading session yesterday morning.

'Books are the Golden Thread of Penn Wood'. Keep reading!

  • Hockey at the Heart!

Thu 07 Mar 2024 Mrs Downer

Penn Wood entered their very first hockey team into the SSSN Hockey tournament this year. Hockey is a fairly new sport to Penn Wood and we are proud to have been developed confidence in this area of the curriculum. A team of brave year 5 pupils held their own in the exciting tournament against many other schools from Slough and the surrounding areas. The players were super excited to be a part of the day and were awarded medals during an awesome but some-what chilly presentation at the end. Good job!

  • Full Court Connections!

Wed 06 Mar 2024 Mrs Downer

    Full Court Connections!

Pete and the PE team have been working together to provide opportunities for our KS2 pupils to have a go at basketball skills and games throughout lunchtimes. There’s been a fantastic uptake on his new after school club running on Tuesday afternoons at Beechwood. It’s not too late to get involved. Please ask a member of the PE team for more information, if required. We would LOVE Penn Wood pupils to be engaging in more after school clubs in and out of school. If you would like to make us aware of anymore clubs that you might know of, or be involved with already, please get in touch with more info.

  • Time to Boogie with Creative Academy

Tue 20 Feb 2024 Mrs Downer

    Creative Academy!

This term, many of our pupils have benefited from our support of the final year dance students from Creative Academy.  CA is a unique partnership between Slough Borough Council and The University of West London. The aim of the Creative Academy is to offer practice based industry standard training, alongside rigorous academic study that reflects the cultural diversity within the dance industry. Some of our year 3 and 4 students will continue their journey with CA into the summer term.

Ali has been working very hard with our year 5 pupils to learn a set routine. Many children have been chosen to perform and represent Penn Wood in Slough and Berkshire’s very first Dance Festival happening next week. The after school dance club will also be putting on a ‘cheery’ performance! Here’s just a little sneak peak of rehearsals in full swing, but NO SPOILERS! ;)

Look out for volume 5 of Penn News photos of the amazing performance!

  • Year 3 Boogie time!

Tue 20 Feb 2024 Mrs Downer

Penn Wood have built a strong relationship with Creative Academy and we welcomed new final year dance students for the second year running. They carried out their superb dance lesson plans with year 3 this term. The children enjoyed exploring and creating routines using canons, unison, formation, mirroring and a selection of motifs to combine for an overall stunning class performance. Well done, year 3!
